At Kawana Waters State College, our TETRIX school robotics program has provided us with an opportunity to prepare our students for the real world.
From Prep right through to Year 12, we are engaging our students with different technologies to prepare them for the jobs of the future. The established and ones that aren’t even created yet.
Working with real materials and not just plastic has our students excited. They’re seeing the real world connections and capabilities and, more importantly, they’re doing what the professionals do. This gives out students a sense of purpose with their learning.
Primary Application
Right now, we are implementing TETRIX PRIME with our Year 6 students. They are the leaders of our primary campus and have taken their induction into the world of TETRIX very seriously. They are appreciating the learning and explicitness of the programming guides. This allows us to cater for students with diverse needs, which is the most important thing when it comes to allowing all of our students to have access to this incredible resource.
Our plan is to introduce TETRIX PRIME with our Year 5 cohort, then extend their learning in Year 6. When they transition into the secondary campus they will be introduced and have access to the TETRIX MAX. With the skills learnt from both of these kits, students are then able to take their school robotics program learning and apply it to their career path.
Secondary Application
Within the Year 8 and Year 9 Digital Solutions classes we are using the TETRIX MAX units to enable students to apply some of the coding skills they have previously acquired. This includes employing our TETRIX MAX units to use basic line programming through to applying Java code to complete tasks.
Our plan, as an advanced application of the units, is to enable the students to use their knowledge of the TETRIX MAX to respond to challenges and solve problems. These tasks are differentiated for the users, depending on their knowledge and skill to enable all to participate in the school robotics program and actively participate in inquiry-based learning.
Moving forward with the school robotics program
With the 21st Century future employability skills reflecting critical, creative thinking and the ability to adapt and innovate, the inclusion of the TETRIX school robotics program at Kawana Waters State College enables our students to harness and refine their skills through real world applications that will effectively prepare themselves for their future.
