New projector screen at St John's Narraweena set to liven up school assemblies

Earlier this year, the staff at St John the Apostle Catholic School contacted our team about installing a new projector screen in their hall. We were happy to help as the new projector screen installation was not the first job our team has completed at the school.

Located in Narraweena, North of Sydney, St John’s had previously engaged us to deliver various audio-visual (AV) upgrades. We always want to use a trusted electrical installer, so our team contacted Nof Lopreiato, the owner of Primo Electrical Services, to help with the installations.

“After completing all of St John’s in room AV equipment installation, the task of showcasing an empty hall was certainly up our alley,” said Nof.

The problem

St John’s were looking for a new projector screen to liven up their hall for their assemblies. Our team were presented with a couple of challenges during the installation including shadows over the screen and the allocated space.

The stage space where the new projector screen was meant to be installed was small – less than four metres wide. It also had a very narrow depth, which made it difficult to find a projector that suited the space.

While the space was difficult to work with, the team at Primo Electrical Services found a solution.

The solution

“Everything had to marry up and it had to be simple to use and efficient,” said Nof.

A rear projector screen was installed where there was no roof space or cavity available. After a little bit of tricky engineering, the new projector screen was hung so it could be concealed when it was not in use.

Dual inputs were installed on the system with multiple screen access via a Joey control system.

To ensure the audio could be heard across the entire hall, the old sound setup was removed and updated with four new 12-inch speakers.

The result

Kookaburra Educational Resources Account Manager for North Sydney, Judy Learmont, was excited St John’s wanted our team’s help with their new projector screen installation.

“After installing other AV systems previously, it was great that St John’s asked us to come back,” said Judy.

“Both the staff and students were impressed with the simple-to-use technology and are excited for their upcoming assemblies and end of year concerts.”
